RAM History
RAM is a newer addition in name only but had previously been a part of Dodge's truck line known as Dodge Ram trucks. The name Dodge Ram was first used in 1981 when Dodge first released the truck line. Many of these trucks were released as D-150s or D-250s and then moved on to Dodge Ram 1500s and 2500s by the late 1990s. The 2000s were the sign of something new for both Dodge and RAM, and the two companies became separate entities in 2010. Splitting the companies into two parts allowed for each one to focus on innovation and production. Dodge was able to focus mainly on sedans and muscle cars, while RAM could focus on developing trucks more powerful than any other.
RAM's Predecessors
RAM's origins started with the Dodge D-Series that were sold between 1960 and 1993. For their time, they were a capable truck line that was hailed among private residents and commercial businesses alike. During this period, Dodge would also release a series of Vans that would be known as Dodge Ram Vans, and eventually become the RAM Promaster that we know today. Before RAM fully became its own brand, Dodge also manufactured the Dodge Dakota from 1986 to 2011. The Dodge Dakota was the little brother of today's RAM 1500, and eventually became a shared wheelbase with the Dodge Durango SUV.
Most Popular RAM Models
For RAM trucks, nothing is more popular than the RAM 1500. Under the 1500 Umbrella offers a ton of different editions including the TRX, the Rebel, and many different configurations that make each 1500 better than the last. The RAM 1500 is still small enough at a fair price point to find the perfect balance between recreation and business and has proven itself outstandingly versatile based on what you are looking for in your truck.
RAM Vehicles Today
RAM has put in a ton of research and development into what truck owners want. Many of their models now offer 12-inch touchscreens, outstanding tow packages, full off-road capabilities, and even top-of-the-line luxury. RAM has made the most powerful truck on the market, the RAM 3500, which has an industry-leading 37,000-pound towing capacity. While RAM continues to make more and more powerful trucks, they are also looking to higher efficiency options including hybrid engines, e-torque technology, and more.
